Throwback Thursday: A Singapore Blogger's Hazepocalpyse Style

So the hazy conditions improved over the weekend last week. However, despite the street-level visibility improving significantly, the PM 2.5 (hazardous air particles) readings still remained at an unhealthy level. Singapore is now permanently shrouded in a strange gray-brown sky, somewhat like an overcast English summer plus the air pollution.

I decided to brighten up my day with sequins and metallics and yes, the spanking new awesome metallic silver leather boxing style sport shorts from the recent NET-A-PORTER sale - OAK Rider metallic leather shorts.

The cropped tweed and cotton blend zip jacket is from Swiss-German label Tally Weijl which was bought in Paris. The lime green sequin top is from Miss Selfridge and chunky accessories - Megalodon shark tooth fossil necklace and oxidized quartz cuff from talented jewellery designer Charles Albert's Alchemia Collection.

You will definitely see more action from my gold studded metallic sneakers and silver metallic leather sports shorts in the next few style feature galleries.

Dear Singaporeans, Malaysians and Indonesians who are affected by the haze pollution, please remember to mask up with at least a N95 face mask and not flimsy surgical masks which only protect against liquid splashes from coughs and sneezes and not the hazardous PM2.5 particles in the air which over time with prolonged exposure would cause heart disease, stroke, respiratory illnesses, birth defects and cancer.

Dsquared Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 Menswear Runway Details

It was a tropical daze at Dsquared's Spring Summer 2014 Menswear catwalk show this week as the show opened in a lush green exotic rainforest setting with scantily clad hot men wearing safari and tribal inspired outfits.

Khaki pants and bermudas make a comeback in the Dsqaured fashion show. The Canadian twin designer duo are famous for making denim and casual staple-wear sexy.

A model on the runway sports a lovely leather trimmed military green canvas fanny pack.

Plain basic khaki green utility parka style jackets were accessorised with sexy rainbow leopard print briefs and bright blue woven necklaces with white coral, layered with natural wooden beads with contrasting yellow tassels.

A pretty tropical hibiscus flower and palm print makes this boxer short look uber cute.

A buttery soft mint green leather bomber jacket is matched with a green and white dotty shiny copper pants.

A model wears more nature inspired accessories such as this beautiful white orchid garland or Hawaiian Lei.

One of the most wanted men's accessories for Spring Summer 2014 would be this delicious calf-hair zebra striped doctor bag from Dsquared where form and function both meet our requirements for a must-have man bag.

Dsquared wants you to fold up your jeans to reveal the lovely leather boot underneath. What a waste not to flash your style.

Celebrity Style Steal: Christina Aguilera Message Tee

32 year old singer Christina Aguilera has lost her longtime post pregnancy weight gain and looks fit and healthy again. The singer who was once popular in the nineties and early 2000 makes a poignant statement with the message on the T-shirt she wore when she was out and about.

Personally, I prefer the gray "Live Fast" sweatshirt by Zoe Karssen. The classic sweatshirt is best paired with a mini skirt or shorts. Dress it up with heels or dress it down with casual socks and boots.

Luxury for Less: Valentino Rockstud Tote

Here's another great bargain - a studded leather tote of equal or almost comparable quality to the luxury designer label featured today - Valentino.

In earlier posts, I talked about the stunning rockstud handbag and shoe collection which I snapped at the Valentino store in Singapore - Current Obsession: Valentino Rockstud Clear Studded Sandals.

Recently, I found the MICHAEL by Michael Kors collection Selma Studded Saffiano Tote from Neiman Marcus that looks equally or more stunning than the original rockstud version for just $428 than compared with the hefty price tag of $2,000 for a mini Valentino rockstud bag.

The Michael Kors version comes in 4 different colours - black, white, taupe, purple and red (not pictured above) and has a stiffer leather frame as it does not come with a clip buckle on the rockstud tote that helps fasten the mouth of the slouchy soft leather bag.

Below is a picture of the original Valentino rockstud tote. Which do you prefer?

Sunday Street Style: Perfect in Black

Meet American model of German descent Lisa-Marie Lpscb in this week's edition of SUNDAY STREET STYLE. We love her casual and laid-back look with attention to details such as her sheer cut-out blouse which she paired with black ankle boots.

This saccharine sweet model wore her hair in cute pigtails which matched her cute and fun two-piece outfit.

Lisa-Marie has modeled for fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Style magazine Singapore and has walked for major catwalk events in Singapore. Lisa-Marie is seen in a photo shoot above by Nino Yap looking really a bit like Russian supermodel Vlada Roslyakova (picture below) as she purse her lips and pouts for the camera.

We wish her all the best and great success in her modeling career and may she be the next Vlada Roslyakova of Asia!

How To Dress Fashionably For The Haze in Singapore

 photo singaporehazecrisisjune2013howtodressfashionably_zpsf26c41a4.jpg

(What I wore.. Oriental floral print pants: Zara, Finland - White Jacquard bomber jacket, Zara Singapore - Hat, H&M Singapore - Turquoise sequin top, Miss Selfridge UK - Sunglasses, Prada France - N95 face mask)

Unfazed by the haze, I decided to head out to get dinner as usual on a Friday night. The air smelt terrible and there was a lingering smell of burnt wood even in the toilets and basements of shopping malls.

One can be sure that the safest place to be would definitely be home if you air-tight and air-condition your house with all windows and doors closed.

The Singapore haze crisis now is the worse in decades in this tiny red dot of an island's history. Despite the PSI (Pollutants Standard Index) swinging from over 400 to 200 or what is classified under hazardous to very unhealthy levels respectively, I see many Singaporeans and complacent foreigners - families with young children, walking around the smog-filled streets without a care in the world.

Burberry Menswear Spring Summer 2014 Runway Review, London, Kensington Gardens

Ironically, it was the first time in decades that the 157 year old British luxury brand Burberry had showcased their menswear collection in London.

A tent was put up in London’s Kensington Gardens for the finale of Men's Fashion Week 2014 in London.

It was pretty packed at the Burberry menswear Spring Summer 2014 runway show tent where people in the last few rows had to stand to watch the fashion event.

The key to Burberry's 2014 menswear collection was the controlled use of multiple colours to achieve a cool, youthful and dandy look.

Lightweight chiffon shirts were matched with thick cardigans which made the entire outfit suitable for windy areas and cooler climates like the UK.

Bright blue boat shoes punctuate dull color pants and complement the bright turquoise shirt, red neck tie and drawstring plimsoll bag.

Moss green shoes and a bright yellow leather drawstring plimsoll bag draws adds a beautiful stark contrast to the grandpa cardigan and teddy bear brown Mr. Bean pullover.

Moss green shoes are a safe bet even for older gentlemen. Now let's see if those fashion editors sitting in the front row in their brown leather shoes would take my advice.

V-neck sweaters are for ladies so how about trying the boatneck sweater?

I am super loving this colour combo that older gentlemen can try too.

Everyone needs a bright red shoe in their shoe cupboard to chase the rain away.

Feeling like a student again with roll-up jeans and silly bright colours.

The crowd looks super boring with their monotone dressing in contrast to the Burberry runway model.

The drawstring plimsoll bag is back! I still remember the days as a little girl carrying my sandwiches in the lunchbox along with random knick-knacks in a flimsy polyester version which was given away free by some milk powder company. This time, it is brought to you by Burberry in their signature luxurious Italian leather.

Is this quirky cool or a pathetic fail?

Accessorise your workwear outfits with cool bright yellow bags, pastel neckties and mint sorbet shades.

At Burberry, it's all about achieving a fine balance without trying too hard.

Hoodies are in again. Hooray!

Mint green watch, man clutch bag and skinny tie, want!

Expert layering as told by Christopher Bailey - perfect for warmer climates like Singapore where people are in desperate need of knowing what else they can wear besides T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops.

Take a page from Christopher Bailey on how to wear see-through apparel without looking too risque.

Lightweight cardigans in fine silk add a touch of elegance.

In a sea of black and whites, stand out in a pastel green peacoat, sunnies and eggshell blue skinny necktie.

Looking at the lighter side of life.

Somehow I can picture fashion blogger BryanBoy in this ridiculous shades.

Keep it casual with boat shoes, a brightly coloured skinny tie and yellow sunnies.

Simple luxury - bi-colour leather boat shoes that resemble colours of a plum and cherry a sour candy ball.

Cute and quirky  yellow spotty Burberry sunnies

Draw instant attention in bright red jumper paired with a salmon pink long-sleeved shirt and yellow skinny tie.

Throw on a stiff plastic looking red hoodie parka over smartly tailored pants to achieve that grown up schoolboy look.

The Burberry leather plimsoll bag in forest green.

I love functional fashion. Keeps you dry from the rain and raises your street cred.

The raincoat parka a la Burberry style.

Genius (mostly) at helm of Burberry, Creative Director Christopher Bailey makes a quick appearance and literally hops and skips away.
